Library Loot in July - Part 2

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Marg and Claire to encourage bloggers to share what they’ve checked out from the library.

I think that the library is a dangerous place. I will need more reading time over the next several weeks if I'm going to read all of the library loot I've been tempted into picking up!

All the Flowers are Dying by Lawrence Block
(It's been about a decade since
I've read a Matthew Scudder novel.
This one was published in 2005.)

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
(Joy called this one "outstanding."
I thought I should read it sooner than later.)

Disney After Dark by Ridley Pearson
(I got this one to read
with my 12-year-old son.)

A Drop of the Hard Stuff by Lawrence Block
(This Matthew Scudder novel came
from the "new releases" display.)

I'll Walk Alone by Mary Higgins Clark
(I think I've read every one of MHC's
mystery novels. This is the latest.)

The Last of the Little Blue Envelopes
by Maureen Johnson
(This is the sequel to 13 Little Blue Envelopes,
which I read last year. My review is here.)

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson
(This is the August pick for Natalie's Book Club.)

Possession by Elana Johnson
(Written by a Utah author, this new release is
YA dystopian fiction, a favorite genre of mine.)

Sean Griswold's Head by Lindsey Leavitt
(This is one of The Contemps.)

The Stormchasers by Jenna Blum
(This is one of the Salt Lake County Library
Reader's Choice nominees
.)

Then by Morris Gleitzman
(I chose this one off the "new releases" shelf.
I've since discovered that it is a sequel -
so I also need to get Once.)

The Tower, the Zoo, and the Tortoise by Julia Stuart
(This is another of the Reader's Choice nominees.)

Library Loot in July - Part 1

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Marg and Claire to encourage bloggers to share what they’ve checked out from the library.

I already have quite a hefty to-read pile on my nightstand, but does that stop me from picking up some more books from the library? Uh, no.

Back When You Were Easier to Love by Emily Wing Smith
(This is one of The Contemps. Isn't that cover adorable?)

Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler
(This is also one of The Contemps.)

Like Mandarin by Kirsten Hubbard
(This is one of The Contemps too.)

The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan
(I read raidergirl3's review of this one and just had to get it!)

Okay for Now by Gary Schmidt
(Shelley at Book Clutter was raving about this one on Facebook!)

One Crazy Summer by Rita Garcia-Williams
(This one is a 2011 Newbery Honor Book,
as well as the recipient of a number of other awards!)

The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta
(I am thrilled that this sequel to Saving Francesca
has recently been published in the U.S.)

Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares
(I'm so excited to visit Tibby, Carmen, Bridget, and Lena again!)

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
(YA author Gayle Forman picked this one as one of her five "The Year's Best Teen Reads" for NPR last December. I started "reading" the audiobook version during my commute this week.)

Library Loot - September 1

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Marg and Claire to encourage bloggers to share what they’ve checked out from the library.

I am reading a faster pace than I was earlier this year, but is it fast enough to justify getting seven new books this week? I guess we'll see!

11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass
(This one was a Cybils finalist last year,
and it's a now a Beehive award nominee.)

Carter Finally Gets It by Brent Crawford
(This one was a Cybils finalist last year.
It's also the first in a series, with the third installment
on The Contemps list for release next summer.)

Dead Man Walking by Helen Prejean
(I saw the film version of this one a week or so ago
and am interested in reading the book.)

Deception by Jonathan Kellerman
(This is the latest installment - the 25th! - in the Alex Delaware series.)

My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares
(This one was on the "new releases" shelf,
and I couldn't resist picking it up.)

Behind You by Jacqueline Woodson
(This is the sequel to If You Come Softly - which I still have checked out from the library from a previous visit. Hopefully I will get to them both shortly!)

Austenland by Shannon Hale
(I have never read any of Jane Austen's books. But I've recently seen both a play and a film version of Pride and Prejudice, and hearing that Shannon Hale is currently working on a sequel to Austenland, I decided that it was time for me to read it.)

Library Loot - August 11

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Marg and Claire to encourage bloggers to share what they’ve checked out from the library.

I'm adding a few more books to my to-read pile, despite the "leftovers" from the prior visits to the library. On this visit, all three of my kids and I also got to pick a book to keep for completing the summer reading program!

If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson
(I put this one on my to-read list back when Alix reviewed it, but I didn't get to it then. Recently I noticed via Facebook that Alice was reading it - as well as its sequel - so I decided that it's time.)

Imperfect Birds by Anne Lamott
(This one was on the "new releases" shelf and I felt in the mood for Anne Lamott, so I picked it up.)

Pink Brain, Blue Brain by Lise Eliot
(I'm not sure where I first saw this one,
but I was intrigued, so I put it on hold.)

Will Grayson, Will Grayson
by John Green and David Levithan
(I'm excited about this new young adult collaboration between the author of An Abundance of Katherines and one of the authors of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.)

Library Loot - August 4

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Marg and Claire to encourage bloggers to share what they’ve checked out from the library.

I'm eager to read the "loot" I picked up this week, although I still have "leftovers" from the past several visits I've made to the library!

The Wives of Henry Oades by Johanna Moran
(This is August's pick for the Book Buddies.)

Every Last One by Anna Quindlen
(After reading Florinda's review, I moved this one up on my to-read list.)

This is What I Did by Ann Dee Ellis
(After reading Suey's review, I just had to pick up this one.)

Leadership Secrets of Hillary Clinton
by Rebecca Shambaugh
(I put this one on hold after reading an article about it on Forbes.com,
and it became available this week.)

Library Loot - July 27

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Marg and Claire to encourage bloggers to share what they’ve checked out from the library.

Why do I keep bringing home new "loot" when my reading isn't keeping pace?! (I guess I can dream, can't I?)

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
(Recommended to me by Sue, the audio version of this Newbery Honor book was my commute companion in June, but since - for the foreseeable future - I'm no longer commuting, I had to get the book version so I can finish it. Because it's a popular read, it took me until now to make it to the top of the "hold" queue.)

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency - The Complete First Season
Based on the Novels by Alexander McCall Smith
(My cousin was raving about this HBO series, and since I've enjoyed many of the books - I'm still working on reading the series - I thought I'd give it a try.)

Enlightened Sexism: The Seductive Message That Feminism's Work is Done by Susan Douglas
(I loved Douglas' Where the Girls Are and am eager to read her new book as part of the Women Unbound reading challenge.)

Ten Cents a Dance by Christine Fletcher
(Ever since I read Becky's review, I've had this one on my to-read list. Since it was just sitting on a display shelf at the library, I couldn't resist picking it up.)

Raw Edges by Phyllis Barber
(I heard about Phyllis Barber's new memoir just last week. Several years ago, I worked with her on a project, and I have also enjoyed hearing her speak, so I am eager to read this book.)

The Last Ember by Daniel Levin
(One of the current Salt Lake County Reader's Choice nominees.)

Whistlin' Dixie in a Nor'easter by Lisa Patton
(Another current Salt Lake County Reader's Choice nominee.)

A Quiet Belief in Angels by R. J. Ellory
(Yet another current Salt Lake County Reader's Choice nominee.)
