Summer Reading Challenge

I'm currently trying to finish my Spring Reading Thing list by the June 21 deadline.* But the seasons start to change, whether we're ready for it or not, and the Summer Reading Challenge starts today! I have posted my list over at the SRC blog, where I will also be periodically posting about the things I'm reading. (By the way, if you're not already participating, you can still sign up through June 7.)

In attempting to create my SRC list, I considered several possibilities for a theme: biographies/autobiographies, time travel books (since i've been interested in those lately), and selections from my piles of books purchased from the local library surplus sales, among other ideas. I finally decided to pick five novels by one author - Jodi Picoult. You may have noticed that I've read two of her books already this year - My Sister's Keeper and The Pact - and I'm very interested in reading more of her - so my Summer Reading Challenge list is as follows:

  • Vanishing Acts (2005)
  • Nineteen Minutes (2007)
  • Plain Truth (1999)
  • The Tenth Circle (2006)
  • Perfect Match (2002)
Like I said, for the next 20 days, I'll remain focused on the SRT list, and then on June 22 I'll start to tackle my SRC list.

*I doubt I'm going to succeed, as I realize now that the goal I set was a bit too challenging!

  2. First of all....I love the name of your blog!! I stumbled over here from the Blogroll challenge AND the SRC challenge.

Secondly, I LOVE Jodi Picoult. I just read Nineteen Minutes (and posted a review a couple of weeks ago). Picoult is one of my favorites! Plain Truth is probably my favorite. I liked Vanishing Acts, too. The Tenth Circle is probably my least favorite of her books though. And I haven't read the other two! Sounds like some great summer reading!

  3. I picked one author to focus on for this challenge as well. I think I set myself too much though when you combine it with my other challenges as well. I have only read Vanishing Acts and The Pact by Jodi which I enjoyed. I have a few of her other books to read so will look to your reviews when picking the next one.

  5. I loved Plain Truth, but I hated The Tenth Circle. And, my sister started it after her 17 year old daughter had finished it and went CRAZY. It's definitely graphic and for mature audiences only.

  6. Oh! You picked some good ones! I have read all of these except for Nineteen Minutes, Vanishing Acts is SO good. As a mom there were things I related to so well, and I thought her writing in this book was soothing and beautifully descriptive. I do have to agree with Stephanie, The Tenth Circle was not my favorite either...I'll be back looking for updates on how you liked them!
