When I read So Many Books, So Little Time, I put sticky notes in some spots where author Sara Nelson mentioned books that I haven't read but that sounded interesting to me. I have to take the book back to the library tonight, so I thought I better write down those titles - then it occured to me that I could list them here for my future reference as well as your feedback on any of the titles that you have read. So, here they are, in alphabetical order:
- Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott
[I've loved those of Lamott's books that I've already read, but for some reason, this is one I haven't.] - The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber
- Crow Lake by Mary Lawson
- Facing the Wind by Julie Salamon
- Heartburn by Nora Ephron
[This would be a re-read for me, as I read it many years ago - when I was in an entirely different place in my life.] - House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III
- Nothing Remains the Same: Rereading and Remembering
by Wendy Lesser - Personal History by Katharine Graham
- Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue
- Turning Japanese by David Mura
- The Way Home by Henry Dunow
- Whitegirl by Kate Manning
I'm glad you decided to list them. Provides good fodder, which is just what I need, right? More books to add to my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteI've only read House of Sand and Fog. It wasn't a favorite, but it was good.
Nothing Remains the Same sounds interesting to me.
I love Bird by Bird - one of my absolute favorites. I just did a new book meme on my blog, and it's in there as one of my "five meaningful books." Hope you enjoy it too!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Bird by Bird--one of the best books on writing out there.
ReplyDeleteI remember really liking The Crimson Petal & the White, and I don't generally like historical fiction
I have the Crimson and the Petal White and it just looks enormous and quite overwhelming on my shelf!! I also have House of Sand and Fog....another of which I have not read yet but is on my Book around the states challenge list. I will let you know how it is when I read it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like an interesting list of books. Thanks for sharing the list!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED both Slammerkin (and have liked her other books, too) and the Crimson Petal and the White. I think it was CP&W that my husband had to physically take away from me so I'd go to bed one night.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my friend Vidalia found Slammerkin pretty dark and gloomy. And I think a few people in my book club thought Crimson Petal was quite long and were unsure about certain parts, but overall it was fairly well-received.
