Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin

Published in 2004. 322 pages.

I don't read a lot of "chick lit," but I had put this one on my to-read list quite some time ago, partly on the strength of Joy's review. Since I need a few books published in 2004 to finish The Countdown Challenge, I recently picked up Something Borrowed at the library.

Just what I needed after several long days at the office, I read almost the whole thing in one day, as it is a quick and compelling read. I found the main character Rachel White likable and her voice real. I will likely pick up the sequel Something Blue - which I understand is told from viewpoint of Rachel's less likable friend, Darcy Rhone - in the not-too-distant future.

Giffin's website has a Reading Group Guide for Something Borrowed.

  1. OH! I'm so glad you liked this. I was a bit surprised as to how much I liked it being I'm not a chick-lit lover either. I have Something Blue on my shelf, but don't plan on getting to it any time soon. I want to, but others are calling a bit louder.

    Thanks for the shout-out. :)

  2. I loved this book and surprisingly, its sequel. I wasn't sure about Something Blue because of how much I disliked Darcy in Something Borrowed. Giffin's a great author!
