Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody

Written with William Hoffer. Published in 1987. 420 pages.

  1. I have some fairly negative feelings about this book. While the story is a compelling one, I think it did much to increase racism during the period that it was popular.

An example: not too long after it was released, I began dating my husband. Some of my extended family members were quite concerned that he was Asian-American. They intimated that he would kidnap our children and take them back to his country. Yah. Because he was born in Oakland, CA and is so freaky like that. Really it made me crazy.

Okay, that's just a personal response, but I thought I'd share. I'm interested to hear what you think of it...

  2. I loved this book. It was great and the movie was just as great.
